Worship

It is not defined by time or place or style. Worship is an attitude. An attitude of reverence for God.

The Lutheran Church of the Messiah believes that to worship God is to show genuine expressions of love, thanksgiving and devotion. It means living a Christ lifestyle.

Through songs and prayers, through Sunday services and special services, our church offers a number of worship opportunities in which members and friends can participate. You are welcome to worship with us on either Saturday or Sunday. Holy Communion is celebrated at all services of worship. We invite all who desire to experience Christ’s presence to come to the table.

Sing to the Lord a Joyful Song. He has done marvelous things!

At Messiah, we embrace the rich Lutheran heritage of music, especially singing, as a profound way to experience and share the wonders of God’s love made known to all people through Jesus Christ. At the heart of music in the Lutheran Church is congregational song. Hymnody is a highly valued part of worship and is treasured at Messiah. The congregation is always encouraged to sing heartily, and in many and various ways.

Our congregation draws its hymn repertoire from a wealth of cultural and historical sources, even as we cherish the great tradition handed down to us over the ages. It would not seem odd at Messiah to sing a German Chorale, a Russian Orthodox Kyrie, and an African freedom song in the same service. Messiah is a congregation that understands the joy of singing, and our members participate fully. Those who "sing out" do not seem out of place, and the texts are expressed meaningfully.

Messiah has many talented instrumentalists, both in the congregation and from the community, who periodically offer their musical gifts in worship. They share their musical repertoire and often assist in the song of the people.

Celebrate Special Services

Baptism
As Lutherans, we acknowledge that Baptism is God’s act, God’s initiative and God’s gift. Baptism brings us into the Church. Lutherans baptizes both infants and adults. In fact, most families bring their infants to the baptismal font within the first months — even weeks — of a child’s life.

First Communion & Confirmation
Through our First Communion and Confirmation classes, the Lutheran Church of Messiah introduces our youth and young adults to the community of faith. Decisions about the appropriate age to begin these classes are primarily determined by families in discussions with the pastor. Generally, first communion occurs between 5th and 6th grades and confirmation occurs between 7th and 8th grades.

Weddings
The wedding service is a milestone for a couple dedicating their lives to one another. Lutherans understand marriage, and especially the love it is based upon, to be a gift from God. The ceremony, therefore, is first and foremost a worship service. Recognizing this as a couple plans the wedding ceremony will give them a clearer vision of what the wedding service should be. The pastor will assist the couple to determine what is acceptable in the wedding ceremony.

All special services should be scheduled directly with the Pastor at (404) 373-1682.
