Welcome to Lutheran Church of the Messiah

Our church has served Atlanta as a place of Christian worship, fellowship and community outreach for over 75 years. Originally established in 1932, the Lutheran Church of the Messiah has grown from its earliest roots in Atlanta’s Kirkwood section to the Decatur home we know today.

We are a small church community with a friendly and welcoming congregation committed to learning about, teaching and sharing God’s love.

Our Mission

We are a spirit driven, people powered congregation. Our aim is to serve God, to be a caring community and to participate in the fullness of life as Christ promised.

As part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (www.elca.org), we make it our mission to:

  • Worship God through Jesus Christ, his Living Word.
  • Learn about, teach and share the gift of forgiveness with others through love.
  • Glorify God while attending to the needs of the community.

Our Invitation to You

We extend an open invitation to you.  Whether you are young or old or in-between.  Whether you are single, married or divorced. Whether you are interested in worship and prayer, or Christian fellowship, Bible study, serving others, or singing and music.

You don't have to be perfect.
You don't have to be rich.
You don't have to be Lutheran.

Our strategy is to worship publically and privately, and to learn what it is to be a child of God.  We witness by our own lifestyles while serving others in need, and supporting one another.

We invite you to join with us for all of these, and if you wish, to make this your church home!
